Course Description: This hugely popular interactive course will discuss the methods and tactics
of light-tackle back-country fishing from a boat for redfish, sea trout, flounder, black drum, and
sheepshead. It will offer discussion, hands-on practice, and illustrated presentations.
Equipment descriptions, knot tying, fishing techniques, places to fish, reading the water,
locating fish, identifying fish, boating safety and etiquette, as well as selecting and purchasing
fishing tackle and gear will be addressed. The final class will comprise of cleaning, cooking, and
eating a fish dinner with locally caught fish.
Instructor: Lawrence W. Piper is licensed USCG Charter Boat Operator and has been an Amelia
Island back-country fishing guide for the last 12 years. He is a Fernandina Beach native who has
fished the creeks, rivers, and lakes of North Florida for more than four decades. Captain Piper
is the owner and operator of The Anglers Mark, LLC, a charter fishing business located at Amelia
Island, Florida. He is a Fly Fishers International Certified Instructor and the Secretary/Treasurer
of Amelia Island Guides Association. Captain Piper facilitated CLL, FSCJ courses: Amelia Island
Back Water Fishing 2013, 2016, and 2018, and Introduction to Fly Casting 2013. Captain Piper is
a member of the Florida Guides Association, National Association of Charter Boat Operators, Fly
Fishers International, and the Amelia Island-Fernandina Beach-Yulee Chamber of Commerce.

at the Dee Dee Bartels fishing ramp.
Fee: $40 for classroom sessions, and donation of $10 or bring a covered dish to last class for the cookout at Dee Dee Bartels.
