Course Description: THIS COURSE HAS BEEN CANCELED FOR THE MOMENT. The methods and tactics of light tackle backcountry fishing from a boat for Redfish, Seatrout, Flounder, Black Drum, and Sheepshead will be presented through discussion, hands-on practice, and illustrated presentations in this interactive course. Equipment descriptions, knot tying, fishing techniques, places to fish, reading the water, locating fish, identifying fish, boating safety and etiquette, as well as selecting and purchasing fishing tackle and gear will be addressed. The final class will comprise cleaning, cooking, and eating a fish dinner from locally caught fish. It is expected that all participants be fully vaccinated and that masks and social distancing will be observed.

Instructor: Captain Lawrence Piper is licensed USCG Charter Boat Operator and has been an Amelia Island backcountry fishing guide for the last 12 years. He is a Fernandina Beach native who has fished the creeks, rivers, and lakes of North Florida for more than 4 decades. Capt.

Piper is the owner and operator of The Anglers Mark, LLC, a charter fishing business located at Amelia Island, Florida. He is a Fly Fishers International Certified Instructor and the Secretary/ Treasurer of Amelia Island Guides Association. Capt. Piper is a member of the Florida Guides Association, National Association of Charter Boat Operators, Fly Fishers International, and the Amelia Island-Fernandina Beach-Yulee Chamber of Commerce. Schedule: Six sessions (five lectures, one interactive cooking class.) Wednesdays, February 16, 23, March2,16, 23, and 30, 6:00-8:00 p.m. (Note: No class March 9.)

Location: The first five lecture classes will be held at the Fernandina Beach Library community room, 24 North 4th Street, Fernandina Beach. The final cooking class will be held at a different location, TBD.

Fee: $50 for the class. Donation of $10 to the instructor, or bring a covered dish to share for the final class.
