Significant English Poems from Shakespeare to Pope

Course Description:  This course will study important English poems and poets over nearly two centuries in a context that is both literary and historical. We’ll explore such matters as the meanings and practices of the concepts “metaphysical,” neo-classical,” and “cavalier” as they illuminate the poems to be discussed. Class size will be limited to 15 students.  It is expected that all students will be vaccinated; masking and social distancing will be observed.

Instructor: Professor Norman Wesley’s career spans fifty years of teaching English, American, and World Literature as well as grammar and linguistics at American colleges and universities and briefly at Cambridge University in England. Professor Wesley is now a retired (emeritus) professor from the State University of New York and lives in Fernandina Beach.

Location: Upstairs conference room at Scott and Sons Jewelry, 9900 Amelia Island Parkway. Masks and social distancing required. Please park away from the spots close to the front door of the store.
