Course Description: Ron Kurtz continues his popular series, The Play’s The Thing, with a class on the Broadway show “Tru.” Ron takes up the challenge of transforming words on the page to words on the stage. Capturing a period in the life of Truman Capote, one of our great writers in both fiction and non-fiction, the play opened on Broadway in 1989 and earned its star, Robert Morse, a Tony award for Best Performance.
Ron will discuss the unique issues that a one-man show presents to a director. Casting is critical as the actor has to carry both plot and action. Join Ron to examine how he has chosen to present the play. Co-sponsored by the Amelia Musical Playhouse, there will be three classes before the play opens on June 30. Students will see the play and finish up the course with final class on July 6.
